Heidi Klum, born on the 1st of June 1973 in Bergisch Gladbach Germany. Her mother Erna had a career as a hairdresser. Gunther Kum was an executive for a cosmetics business. Her father had previously been director of production at the perfume firm 4711. In Bergisch Gladbach she was born and lived her entire life. Bergisch Gladbach is only six miles from Cologne. She is a former model of German descent who performs as a host on TV as well as a fashion producer. Klum's career as a model began in 1992 while Klum was employed in a Dusseldorf Discotheque. Karin encouraged Klum, then a student of 18 years old, to participate in a German TV talent show dubbed Model 92. The show was a Thomas Gottschalk hosted late night talk show. Klum faced off against 25,000 contestants in Germany, Europe and beyond until she was in third place. Klum was awarded a top $300,000 modeling award in April of 1992.
